Wood's Tree Farm

History of Wood's Tree Farm

1n 1975, 50 years ago, Chuck Wood purchased 20 acres in Kirkland, Illinois and it quickly became a place of calm refuge for him.  Chuck and his 5-year-old son Jeff would spend hours clearing out weeds.  Chuck with a machete and Jeff with a piece of wood shaped to look like one.  This also started Jeff’s dream to be a farmer.  Over the years the Wood family walked, cleared brush, and hunted pheasants on our land.

Building Roots

Fast forward to 1992, Jeff and his then girlfriend Marcia came up with the idea to build a little one-room building on the farm (before tiny homes were even a thing!)  This was a great extended family, multi-generational project and became a place to learn carpentry skills and store farm tools.

In 1999, Chuck passed away and responsibility for the farm shifted over to Jeff, the next generation.  Jeff and his now wife Marcia often took their boys Alex and Scotty out to Kirkland and the 3rd generation fell in love with the farm.

The Christmas Dream

In 2018, Jeff figured out a way to keep his day job while fulfilling his dream to be a farmer – Christmas trees!!!  That year Scott and Jeff planted about 100 trees.  We really did not know what we were doing and between planting too late in the season, trees that were too little, not telling the farmer so he mowed some of them over, and losing a bunch of them in the weeds, things did not go so well that year.

In 2020, Jeff and Marcia rehabbed the outbuilding with Scott and Alex (among many other family and friends).  It was a great pandemic project!

We continued planting about 150 to 250 trees every year and fine tuned our farming skills.

2024: A Big Year

2024 was a big year out at the farm.  We acquired a 1953 Ford tractor, built a pole barn to store more ag equipment, and gave away a few trees to dear friends.  We also started our dream to create unique experiences to accommodate families with special needs to have a calm and bright Christmas tree experience.

2025: A Magical Christmas Begins

2025 is our first year officially open for business.  We now have about 2,000 pine, fir, cedar, and spruce trees in various stages of growth with about 35 pine trees ready to be harvested this year.  In steady state, we plan to sell about 150 to 200 trees.
